Bright and refreshing, notes of pomegranate, strawberry and pink-lemonade.
Tasting Notes: Rose petals with hints of white peach and kumquat. The first sip brings a light effervescence that awakens the palate, bringing attention to this wine’s lively acid. Bright and refreshing, notes of pomegranate, strawberry and pink-lemonade give this wine the versatility it deserves, whether pairing or savoring it on its own.
Vineyard: Our de Coelo vineyard is just five miles from the Pacific Ocean, between the towns of Freestone and Bodega. One of the first Biodynamic sites in the area, the small lots of wines crafted from the de Coelo vineyard are authentic illustrations of vintage, varietal and vineyard. The 23 acre vineyard is planted with 5 different clones producing 4 distinct Pinot Noirs, a Chardonnay and a Rosé. The climate is of maritime influence remaining very cool and moist throughout the growing season. The soils are classic Gold Ridge soils with more clay substructure and the grapes are grown under Certified Demeter Biodynamic practices.
Vintage: With ideal conditions during flowering and a cooler, dry year, yields were up and the quality superb. The large crop set resulted in our team making multiple thinning passes of the fruit leaving only that of the highest quality. Due to mild temperatures, harvest started two weeks later than in 2017. With only one rain event at the beginning of October and clear skies from then on, the fruit was able to have a long hang time to reach textbook maturity.
Winemaking: Our Pinot Noir grapes are harvested at night to protect their delicate flavors and to preserve freshness. The fruit is immediately pressed and spends no time on skins to give a perfect pink to our Rose wine. It is then fermented slow and cold in stainless steel by native yeast to preserve the beautiful strawberry aroma which is signature to this wine.
