Tasting Notes:  This Biodynamic estate wine is sourced from our terraced hillside abundant with obsidian rock. This black rock helps ripen fruit from the ground up creating a classic European style of elegance and power. Aromas of sweet tobacco and warm blackberry compote rise from the glass. This wine’s structure comes together on its signature glassy finish and edgy fine grained tannins.

Vineyard: The fruit that goes into this wine is grown on our estate vineyards. On our home ranch the block is located on a steep hillside full of obsidian rock and terraced for perfect exposure and even ripening. The glassy, black rock in this block holds the heat while helping ripen the fruit. The rocks mimic thousands of heaters that hold warmth deep into the evening.

Vintage: We had become accustomed to working with limited amounts of water due to the drought, but this year we worried about abundance - it was a wet winter. Despite early season warmth and rain challenges, once we hit ripening season we had great weather for the hanging fruit to reach full maturity and to achieve ideal flavors and balance.

Winemaking: Our grapes are harvested at night to preserve their flavors and freshness. The fruit is then destemmed and carefully sorted so only the best berries make it to the tank. We cold soak the fruit for several days to extract rich color and flavors. We allow the native yeast to ferment the grapes to wine while we carefully manage tannins during our pumpovers. This wine is then aged in French Oak barrels for 16 months.
